How to Optimize Your Website Homepage

On social media I talk a lot about optimizing your website homepage for high conversion. I’m sure you’re wondering “why should I care about my website homepage so much if I have a pretty website?” Having a pretty website with a well-designed template or customization is helpful, but it doesn’t guarantee your business growth.

An optimized website homepage should be creative and strategic to help you convert your website visitors into customers. So, what exactly should be on your homepage checklist? You should include things on your homepage such as effective messaging, calls to action, a captivating newsletter opt-in, and bonus points for a layout that flows and engages the eyes. See your checklist below for everything you need!

Firstly, I love thinking about your website homepage as the living room of your website, because it’s the first thing people see when they step into your home, and it’ll be where they spend the most time! So it’s important to make your homepage as optimized as possible.

☑️ Include a tagline or simplified summary of your business on the first block of your homepage! This will help to clarify what kind of a business you own so that people aren’t wondering as they scroll.

☑️ Another must-have is to include strategic call-to-action buttons without them looking too cluttered. I like using one call-to-action button per block on a homepage so that it simplifies the scroll process for a visitor. See my homepage for the perfect example.

☑️ Include information about your services! You can go into more detail about your services on a separate page, but a services block on your homepage is just meant to summarize your services for instant clarification to visitors.

☑️ Do you own products or host an e-commerce shop? Give your visitors a little glimpse of what you have to offer by including 1 to 2 best sellers on your homepage! This is a unique way to get visitors to click on the shop portion of your website to continue their shopping experience with you.

☑️ Set up a lead capture! This is a very important portion of your homepage. Having a discount or freebie too good to resist is a great incentive for visitors to opt-in to your newsletter! Optimize your homepage with both a newsletter and pop-up block to capture those emails and build your community. Right now I have a free marketing webinar available, a monthly freebie incentive, as well as an option to see my pricing guide once visitors subscribe to my newsletter. My email list is growing substantially since implementing these different forms.

I hope that this checklist helps you to understand the essentials of a strategic website layout a little bit better in the case that you’re undergoing a DIY project or managing your own site for updates.

Additionally, be aware that you get what you pay for with a website. Because of design limitations with DIY and tech inexperience, it might be best to outsource your project to a professional who can optimize your website for success.
