Color Trends and Brand Design Choices

What colors are you currently into, and how do you think they would influence your small business’ professional visual designs? According to an article published by Who What Wear there are 9 simple yet nostalgic colors to be on trend this Fall 2020. These colors include: red wine, lime, almond milk, black, military olive, fresh orange, toffee brown, bright blue, and gray! As a designer I’m excited to see which fall fashion colors influence the designs of my client’s branding and website designs. Although it’s great to use color trends to your advantage in marketing, as a designer I don’t believe they should influence the official visual identity of your brand.

Among my three favorite trend setting colors are almond milk, toffee brown, and fresh orange. Here are some branding color palette pairings that I think would work really well together from the proposed trending colors of Fall by Who What Wear: Toffee brown, black, and gray. Fresh orange, lime, and military olive. And for the last grouping; Almond milk, red wine, and bright blue.

Most often my clients will tell me of their color palette interests and then I do my best to color match their expectations without compromising my honest opinion for their color direction. Sometimes it’s hard for clients to let go of their expectations and open their heart to the unexpected, but it always works for the best. Do you think color trends would influence your professional branding project or would you stick to necessities of your industry and audience? I personally think that a small business owner can always find a common ground between personal taste and the expectations of their industry.

It’s okay to be playful with your professional branding in order to captivate your audience! The personal touch of creativity and playfulness that goes into a designer’s branding is the secret sauce that sets us apart from generic online graphic design tools and websites. Talk with your designer to see what common ground can be found for your visual identity to make your small business really pop in a creative yet effective way.
