A Look Into Our Rebrand: Tips For Designers

Developing and crafting a newly branded experience for your business can be a daunting task when you find yourself in a growing season. You’ve seen your business change direction and your goals have developed beyond what you offer now. With those changes, understanding that your visual appeal is an imperative aspect to growing your brand. I myself experienced this season earlier this year so I wanted to share some behind the scenes of our rebrand and some helpful tips on making the process seamless.

At the start of 2020, I was functioning under the name Studio Kait. Yet within the first six months of the year, I saw immense growth for my brand. As our studio was growing, I wanted my business name to have the same growth potential. My hope was to foster a deeper connection with our community and clientele. So, I decided to begin the rebranding process and re-launch a new visual brand experience to cater to our growing clientele.

I've always loved art and frequented art museums around the world like the MOMA in NYC and The Louvre in Paris. Particularly, in Sante Fé, New Mexico, at the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, there was a specific painting that always stood out to me called "Sky Above Clouds." To me, the painting signifies a person's continual strides towards achievement in an effort to be their best version and to be "above the ordinary". I often dream about having a copy of that painting in my future studio location, a reminder of where I started and where I’ve made it to.

My biggest tip when choosing a new name (if that is the direction you’re going in) is to understand your long-term goals and ideal clientele. How and what markets to them specifically? What will they feel most connected to? And how will this name attract your most ideal clientele?

Once I was past the initial decision to rebrand and had a new name, I knew there were ways in which I needed to outsource to help bring my vision to life. First, I made a list of components I wanted on my website and which tasks would be delegated to me and which I would outsource. Writing down the purpose of my website helped me understand what consumer I had in mind and how to craft the experience to them directly.

Once all the details were laid out, it was time to create the new vision for ‘Above Design’ and the perfect rebranded identity. While you can do it all yourself, you might run into some roadblocks that will make the process longer and more tedious. For me, finding people to help me throughout the process of launching my rebrand was such a game changer. I outsourced four different creatives during quarter four of 2021 to help with my launch: a blog writer and pinterest manager, a social media manager, a brand voice copywriter, and lastly a website developer to help with tedious technicalities.

Once you’ve taken care of the foundation of the rebrand, and a new visual design is in place, you may want to look into outsourcing other creatives to help you along the way and especially a copywriter to craft new copy that converts from clicks to sales. Ensuring your website copy is meaningful and intentional increases a consumers likelihood to support or make a purchase from your brand.

Your brand’s website is the main hub for everything related to your brand. Grabbing their attention, building connection, and providing necessary information helps create a supportive community and assists in generating sales.

I know the process can be difficult, especially if you’re a one person show. If you can outsource help, you’ll find yourself feeling capable, prepared, and excited for the change to come. If you’re not in the place to outsource, don’t feel discouraged. You’re capable of preparing exactly what you need to do for your business. Allow discouragement and tiredness to push you towards your end goal. In time it’ll all come together beautifully.
